Signs of a Wasp Infestation

You might already know you have a wasp infestation but here are a few of the most common signs wasp exterminators look for in Boston Area.

Sightings

The first sign people notice are actual wasps flying around the house, yard, or garden. They might hover around flowers, tree blossoms, and gutters.

Visible Nests

Some species of wasps in Boston Area make nests above ground in trees, hanging in soffits, or on poles. These nests can range in size from a pingpong ball to a basketball, depending on the species.

Hidden Nests

Some wasp species make nests underground, under house siding, or inside soffits. These can be especially difficult to find because the only sign of them is wasps flying in and out of their nests.

Things You Need to Know About Wasps

  • Wasps eat lots of things… including meat.
  • They sting multiple times.
  • They have the ability to live alone or in colonies.
  • Paper wasps, hornets, mud daubers and yellowjackets are all subtypes of wasps.
  • Stings from any of these wasps will most likely result in a painful red welt but not much more.
  • In rare cases, individuals who are allergic to wasp venom may experience systemic reactions like anaphylaxis. This severe reaction may include hives, airway constriction, rapid pulse, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you experience anaphylaxis, head to a doctor immediately.

Helpful Wasp Prevention Tips:

  • Make or purchase Wasp Decoys to hang in areas wasps make nests
  • Limit food access around your yard and cover trash cans.
  • Ensure all door and window screens are in good repair
  • Do not seal entryways as wasps may already be inside walls.

Wasp Control FAQ

How do I get rid of wasps?

Whether they make a nest on your home, in a tree, or in the ground, wasps are extremely tough. It can become imperative to get rid of wasps, but trying to control wasps yourself can lead to serious stings and allergic reactions. Call Fox Pest Control in Boston Area today for a free wasp extermination quote and to help make your home safe and comfortable again.

Are wasps dangerous?

Wasp removal may be critical, because while many people have a painful welt after a  sting, others can experience a range of allergic reactions, from large, prolonged swelling in the area around the sting, to systemic reactions like anaphylaxis.

How do I avoid wasps?

If you are certain that you have an allergy to insect stings, be very cautious around wasps. Professional pest control can help with wasp removal and prevention on your property in Boston Area, reducing the risk of a sting.

What is epinephrine?

Also known as adrenaline, epinephrine is a hormone the body produces that increases blood flow, restores heart rhythm, and opens air passages. Wasp control is important because although many people with allergies to insect stings carry an epinephrine injection, further medical attention would be required in the case of anaphylaxis.

What is anaphylaxis?

Often caused by insect stings, anaphylaxis (or anaphylactic shock) is a life-threatening allergic reaction that can be characterized by obstructed breathing, irregular heart rhythm, massive or irregular swelling, or hives. Anaphylaxis requires immediate emergency medical attention.

Are wasps beneficial to the environment?

In general, wasps eat other insects, including crop-destroying insects that cause problems for gardeners and farmers, which makes them beneficial in the wild.

Some species of wasps also eat flower nectar and pollen, contributing to pollination. However, no pollinating insects are quite as efficient as native bees. Nevertheless, you should get rid of wasps when they become a nuisance. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

What do wasps eat?

Most wasps eat meat, usually other insects. However, there are lots of wasp species that also eat flower nectar and pollen. Nevertheless, you should get rid of wasps when they become a nuisance. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

Why are wasps aggressive?

Not all species are aggressive, but those that are usually become most agitated during the late summer and fall. During that time, wasp colonies start to deteriorate as the queen finds a place to stay during the winter. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

Which wasps are more aggressive?

Some wasps will dive-bomb into soda cans, hover over plates, or attack without much provocation. These types of wasps are generally among the various species that eat sugary flower nectar. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

Do wasps make honey?

Some wasps make a small amount of honey that they regurgitate for their larvae to eat. However, they don’t collect pollen the way honey bees do to make honey. Nevertheless, you should get rid of wasps when they become a nuisance. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

Are wasps flower pollinators?

While all wasps eat meat of one kind or another, some types also eat flower nectar and pollen. So, technically they are pollinators, but they aren’t nearly as good at it as native bees and honey bees. Nevertheless, you should get rid of wasps when they become a nuisance. When this starts to happen, keep a great Boston Area wasp exterminator in mind, like Fox Pest Control.

What are the differences between wasps, hornets, bumblebees, yellow jackets, and honey bees?

Wasp. This is a general term that describes any flying insect that can sting multiple times, eats meat, and is either solitary or makes colonies.
Hornets, paper wasps, yellow jackets, and mud daubers are all types of wasps.

Bumblebees have round, fuzzy bodies and stubby wings. They are usually black and yellow. They are closely related to wasps, but they aren’t wasps or bees.

Bees. Of all the thousands of bee species, they all have hairy bodies, short wings, and at least some hairs, though some kinds are fuzzy. They can be black and yellow or completely black.

The most well-known types of bees are honey bees and carpenter bees.

I had the great pleasure of having Chris Freitas from the Foxboro Location. He was such a sweet, professional and genuinely sincere young man. He took the time to listen to everything and didn't make me feel like I was a bother. I told him about a book I wrote with the help of my beautiful black lab Named Bear Joe. Due to my 2 year old grandson was afraid of the medical masks,so his most favorite thing is anything with wheels such as trains or cars, so I had a mask made with cars on it and he immediately put it on. That inspired me to write a story explained by Bear Joe to all kids around the globe. Chris has a 3 year old son so I wanted him to have a copy to read to his son Ryland. All proceeds are going to help CHILDREN if they need a laptop for home school, or groceries to fill their stomachs. Bear Joe deputizes the kids to help him capture the covid bully germ. I am happy to say it is available on Amazon and the title is. Bear Joe says mask up kids. And Pawsitively loves that they are proud mask wearing kids. Because he is a proud mask wearing PUP. Chris, I really hope your son enjoyed the storyline stressing how important it is to always mask up.!!!! Sincerely And a High Paw for All The Fox Team for keeping me safe.. God Bless Bear Joe
